Let’s be real, New York is a fast moving – hustle — bustle type of place. Being from a small-town where everyone literally knows my [your] name, every time I visit New York, I need to keep a valium on me at all times. From the second I touch down at JFK, I know I am in store for 24/7 on-the-move ‘hecticness’ and non-stop noise/adventure. This trip, my tenth or so time to the city, was no different. The only difference — this time, I stayed at The Benjamin Hotel in Midtown.
Although there are many places to stay within this area, The Benjamin hotels is just 3 blocks away from Rockefeller Center – exactly where I have been dying to visit for years. That was quite convenient.
I walked into the hotel and was pleasantly surprised by how clean it was. Like really clean — freshly polished marble, fingerprint-free mirrors, just vacuumed furniture – I was very impressed. The front-desk staff greeted me with glowing smiles (very white teeth as well, but that is for a different time) and a warm welcome. Within 5 minutes I had my luggage taken upstairs and I was guided to my room.
My room, a one-bedroom suite, was quite impressive. I had a fancy king-sized bed which had equally fancy covers and pillows. The living room was spacious, with a comfortable sofa and large flat-screened TV. The view was mostly other buildings, but hey, it’s New York City. The bathroom was also large and very clean (in case you couldn’t tell, I like clean). Overall the room was very homey and being from a small-town, I appreciated that.
The food — the food was REALLY good at the Benjamin Hotel! After further inquiry I found out the chef was one of the ‘Iron Chefs’, which made total sense after eating the food. I had room service delivered to me and devoured the meal while watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (my nightly ritual). Needless to say, I went to bed very full and had a much-needed, rejuvenating night sleep.
After waking up around noon with a little bit of a still-full belly, I went to the fitness room on the third floor. I found myself very pleased again, at the variety of equipment, in addition to the — you guessed it — cleanliness of the facility. I was a little surprised that there was no one else working out at the time, but was very pleased at the private gym I had at my fingertips.
The remainder of my trip to the city was more enjoyable than I originally thought it would be. The weather was nice and cool, so people seemed much nicer around the city. I would certainly recommend The Benjamin Hotel to anyone that is visiting the area. You can come alone or come with your family – it is a great spot for business and perfectly located for fun.
Thank you Oveedia for the experience!
